Ellen R. Meyer was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer in 2007, when her daughter was two and a half years old and her son was four months old. Ellen wrote this true story to help her children understand and talk about what it’s was like be “a kid whose mommy has cancer.” She hoped that children who love someone with cancer would enjoy and learn from the story.
Ellen had been an elementary school teacher and was an education researcher who worked to improve schools. She had a Ph.D. in Education from Stanford University. She lived in Portland, Oregon with her husband Doug, and their two children, Lirit and Bennett. Ellen died at her home on April 25th, 2010.
